We would like to share a few quick tips on how to properly care for your bike cables. It’s a good practice to take the tension off your gear cables by shifting to the smallest chainring and smallest rear cog when not riding your bike. This helps to prolonged the life of your gear cables. Over the years as a mechanic, I’ve seen plenty of customers bringing in their bike to the shop because their gear cables snapped in the shifters. This is especially so with road bikes. This can take up to an hour or more to remove the cable and strands of gear wires from the shifters and normally is costed at £1/minute. We, as well as many manufacturers, recommend changing your cables once a year during a full service. Have plenty of fun and enjoy riding your bikes.
