E-bike service in London is its own discipline. The motor, battery, wiring and display add failure modes a standard workshop never has to think about, and most general bike shops will not touch a modern e-bike system at all. BikeClinique is certified by both Bosch and Shimano STEPS, runs a software-updated workshop in Wimbledon (SW19), and provides same-week e-bike servicing and diagnostics across South West London.
This hub is the single starting point for every e-bike service question — cost, what is included, when to use a certified partner, and which specialist page to jump to next.
How much does an e-bike service cost in London?
From £260 for a Full E-Bike Service. BikeClinique is one of the few London workshops that prices e-bike servicing as a distinct tier rather than a standard bike service with a surcharge. The £40 premium reflects the extra time on drivetrain inspection, firmware-level diagnostics, battery health logging, and motor mounting checks. Diagnostics-only (no service) start at £45. Puncture repair from £30 for e-bike (higher pressure and e-bike-rated sealant). All prices are labour only — parts (tyres, tubes, chains, cassettes, brake pads, hydraulic fluid, batteries, motors) are quoted separately and only fitted with your approval.
Why e-bike service is different from a standard bike service
An e-bike service covers the standard mechanical items — brake adjustment, gear tuning, chain wear, tyre condition — plus a structured electrical system check: battery state of health, charge cycle count, error code read, motor torque calibration, wiring loom inspection, and firmware version confirmation. A standard bike service ignores all of this. A specialist e-bike service is the only way to catch a degrading battery cell or a Bosch error code before it leaves you stranded. Read the full breakdown in our E-bike Service London Complete Guide.
Which e-bike motor systems does BikeClinique service?
Bosch (Active Line, Active Line Plus, Performance Line, Performance Line CX, Cargo Line, all generations including the smart system) and Shimano STEPS (E5000, E6100, E7000, E8000, EP8, EP6). We are certified partners for both, which means we use the manufacturer's diagnostic tools, follow the manufacturer's service intervals, and update firmware through the official channels. We also service Yamaha, Fazua, Mahle and Bafang systems on a best-effort basis — call us to confirm before booking.
When should an e-bike be serviced?
Twice a year is the practical minimum for any e-bike ridden weekly in London — once after winter (March/April) to deal with the salt, wet and grime, and once in early autumn (September/October) to prepare for the colder, wetter months. Bosch and Shimano both specify service intervals in mileage terms too: roughly every 1,000 miles or 12 months, whichever comes first. High-mileage commuters (15+ miles a day) should consider a quarterly check. See our complete guide for the full interval table.
Where to get an e-bike serviced in London
Three options exist: the main dealer (expensive, often a 2-week wait), a generic bike shop that "also does e-bikes" (no diagnostic tools, will not update firmware, may void your warranty), or a specialist like BikeClinique. We are a 3-mile collection radius from our Wimbledon workshop — we collect your e-bike, service it, and return it. Free collection within 3 miles of SW19, including Wimbledon, Tooting, Balham, Clapham, Wandsworth and Putney. Drop-off is also fine if you'd rather bring it in.
What to bring to an e-bike service
Your e-bike, the charger, the battery key (if separate), and any error messages or symptoms you have noticed. If you have the original purchase invoice or warranty document, bring that too — Bosch and Shimano warranties both run for 2 years on the motor and battery, and a service record with a certified partner keeps the warranty valid. If you bought the bike secondhand, we can register it with Bosch or Shimano on the day for a small admin fee.
Is it worth servicing an e-bike?
Yes — and not just for the obvious reasons. A well-serviced e-bike holds 70-80% of its battery capacity at 5 years, versus 50-60% for a neglected one. At £400-£800 for a replacement battery, that gap is worth the £260 service every year. A degrading battery also stresses the motor (the controller pushes more current as cells fail), so a missed service compounds into a £1,200 motor replacement 18 months later. The service is the cheap insurance.

Frequently asked questions
How long does an e-bike service take?
Most e-bike services are completed within 24-48 hours of collection. A Full E-Bike Service takes 2-3 hours of workshop time; the rest is collection logistics and a final test ride. Same-day service is possible for an extra fee if you call before 9am.
Can a regular bike shop service an e-bike?
Technically yes, but most should not. Without the manufacturer's diagnostic software they cannot read error codes, update firmware, or confirm the battery is healthy. A standard bike shop that "also does e-bikes" will not have the Bosch or Shimano STEPS certified partner status, which means your warranty may be at risk. Use a certified partner.
Does an e-bike service include firmware updates?
Yes — at BikeClinique. Part of every Full E-Bike Service is a firmware version check and update if a newer version is available from Bosch or Shimano. Firmware updates fix known bugs, improve range, and occasionally enable new features. We document the version in your service record.
Can you service an e-bike I bought elsewhere?
Yes. We service e-bikes bought from any retailer — independent bike shop, online retailer, supermarket, or direct from manufacturer. We register the bike with Bosch or Shimano on the day if it is not already registered, so the warranty continues unbroken.
What happens if my e-bike has an error code?
Bring it in or call us. Most error codes (Bosch and Shimano) are diagnostic, meaning we can read them with the manufacturer's tools, clear the code, and identify the root cause in under 30 minutes. Diagnostics-only (no service) is £45; if the issue is repair rather than a clearable code, we quote the repair separately.
Do you service e-bike batteries?
We diagnose battery health — state of health percentage, cell balance, cycle count — using the official Bosch and Shimano tools. We do not open or rebuild battery packs (the safety and warranty risk is too high). If your battery needs replacement, we supply and fit a new OEM pack and recycle the old one.
How often should I service my e-bike?
Twice a year for most London riders — once after winter, once before winter. Daily commuters covering 15+ miles a day should consider a quarterly check. Bosch and Shimano specify 1,000 miles or 12 months, whichever is first.
Do you collect e-bikes for service?
Yes. Free collection within 3 miles of our Wimbledon workshop (SW19 2RR), which covers Tooting, Balham, Clapham, Wandsworth and Putney. For areas outside that radius, drop-off is welcome during workshop hours.
