Mountain Bike Repair London: From Trail to Trail

Looking for Mountain Bike Repair London? BikeClinique is South London's trusted bike shop: expert mechanics, transparent pricing, and fast turnaround. Whether you need a quick adjustment or a full service, we've got you covered.

Mountain bikes are the hardest-working bikes on the road. They take hits, absorb impacts, pedal through rocks and roots, and keep coming back for more. But that work takes a toll -- and if you maintain your mountain bike properly, it will maintain you.

At BikeClinique, mountain bikes are one of our core specialisms. Whether you ride local South London trails, head to the Surrey Hills at weekends, or take regular trips to trail centres, we've got the knowledge and tools to keep your bike in one piece.

What Mountain Bikes Need That Road Bikes Don't

Mountain biking stresses components in ways road cycling simply doesn't. Understanding that stress is the first step to knowing when and why things need attention.

Suspension

Your fork and rear shock are precision-tuned instruments. They need servicing at regular intervals -- typically every 50-100 hours of riding for forks, and every 100-200 hours for rear shocks. Signs your suspension needs attention: the fork feels harsh, it doesn't fully compress or extend smoothly, it's started to weep oil, or the damping feels inconsistent.

We offer suspension servicing for all major brands: Fox, RockShox, SR Suntour, Manitou, and others. We can also set sag, recommend baseline settings for your weight and riding style, and advise on service intervals.

Dropper Posts

Dropper posts have become standard on mountain bikes -- and they need maintenance. Cable-actuated droppers are simpler to service; hydraulic droppers (RockShox Reverb, KS Lev) require bleeding and occasionally replacement of internal seals. If your dropper is sticking, not returning, or making unusual noises, bring it in.

Tubeless Setup

More mountain bikes ship tubeless from the factory, and for good reason: lower tyre pressures, fewer flats, better grip. But tubeless setups require occasional topping up with sealant, and if you've been riding with a flat for a while, the rim tape and valve can be compromised. We can convert bikes to tubeless, top up or replace sealant, and check rim condition as part of the process.

Drivetrain

MTB drivetrains take a beating. Mud, grit, and torque accelerate chain and cassette wear. We check chain wear with a chain checker tool -- a stretched chain will destroy your cassette quickly, and a worn cassette will accelerate new chain wear. Replacement is always cheaper than the damage caused by riding with worn components.

Common Mountain Bike Repairs

  • Suspension servicing: fork and shock service, air spring maintenance, damping adjustment
  • Dropper post service: cable adjustment, hydraulic bleeding, seal kits
  • Tubeless conversion: rim tape, valves, sealant, full setup
  • Chain, cassette, and chainring replacement: standard wear items on heavy-use MTBs
  • Brake service: pad replacement, rotor truing, hydraulic bleed
  • Wheel tru: truing and tensioning after impact damage
  • Headset service: headset replacement and bearing refresh
  • Derailleur adjustment: clutch adjustment, b-tension, indexing for 12-speed systems

How Often Does an MTB Need Servicing?

Heavy trail riders should aim for a full service every 3-6 months if riding regularly. Trail centre riders every 6-12 months is usually sufficient. If you're riding through winter or in wet, muddy conditions, shorten the interval -- salt and grit are the biggest enemy of any bike.

Our MTB Service Area

We cover Wandsworth, Clapham, Balham, Tooting, Wimbledon, Streatham, Putney, Southfields, and the wider South London area for mountain bike service. Many of our MTB customers ride at Wimbledon, Richmond Park, or head further afield to the North Downs and Surrey Hills -- we understand the kind of riding London MTB riders do.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you service XC, Trail, and Enduro bikes?
Yes -- we work on all mountain bike disciplines. The principles are the same; the components and service intervals may differ.

Can you set up my suspension for my weight and riding style?
Yes. Bring your bike in and tell us your weight, preferred riding style, and typical terrain. We'll set sag, adjust compression and rebound damping, and give you a baseline to start from.

My fork has started making a noise when it compresses -- is it serious?
Possibly. A noise on compression is often an early sign of seal wear or low lubrication. Bring it in before a service and we'll assess it. Riding with damaged suspension seals can accelerate wear significantly.

Do you work on electric mountain bikes?
Yes. We service the mechanical and suspension components of e-MTBs. For motor system diagnostics, we handle Bosch and Shimano STEPS systems.

Can I supply my own parts?
Yes. If you've already bought components, bring them and we'll fit them. We'll advise on compatibility and reject parts that won't work for your bike.
