Frequently Asked Questions

How often should I service my bike suspension?

Forks and rear shocks need a basic lower-leg service every 50 hours of riding, with a full damper service every 200 hours or once a year (whichever comes first). If you ride in wet or dusty conditions more often than that. If you skip services, the stanchions wear and the damper fails — that's when the rebuild cost doubles.

What are the signs my fork or shock needs a service?

Reduced travel, the fork sitting lower in its stroke, oil on the stanchions, knocking or clonking over bumps, the rebound feeling slow or sticky, and any hissing on the rebound stroke. If your suspension feels "off" compared to when it was new, it almost certainly needs attention.

Do you service all fork brands?

Yes — RockShox, Fox, Marzocchi, SR Suntour, Manitou, Öhlins, DT Swiss, Formula, and most others. We've been working on suspension in South London for over a decade and have seen most service issues. If a brand needs a specialist tool we don't have, we'll tell you upfront and can usually source it.

How long does a suspension service take?

A basic lower-leg service (wipers, bath oil, seal replacement) usually takes 1-2 hours. A full damper service with spring rebuild takes 3-4 hours. We'll book your bike in for the same day when possible. If we need to order parts, we'll let you know the turnaround time upfront.

Can you upgrade my fork or shock rather than service it?

Yes. If your current suspension is past its best, we can advise on upgrades that match your bike, riding style and budget. We've fitted RockShox Lyrik, Fox 36, Marzocchi Z1 and other premium forks. We'll quote parts, labour and any headset or brake mount adaptors up front — no surprises.

Do you offer collection and delivery for suspension work?

Yes, paid collection and delivery across South West London. We collect from your home or workplace, service the bike at our SW17 workshop, and return it ready to ride. Free for workshop drop-off and pickup. Call 07951 125843 to arrange.
